Proper Work

Advertising

I got a couple of days work on a TV add last week, typically in Norfolk.  For what you do the money is actually very, very good.  It was also the most professional gig I’ve ever been on.  The budget for 30 seconds of TV time I suspect will sit around the same as the budget for the last feature that I worked on.  The good thing is that I met new people, saw a different side to things and learned a little bit more about possible kit for the film.

Would I as a Director?

It’s something that I’ve put a lot of thought into over the last few days.  I think if it was the right product, yes I might.  If only to subsidize the rest of the work we do.  It is though a very different beast, getting perhaps 3 shots a day as apposed to the 3 pages I would expect to achieve on film.  I would also miss the other factors.  Making a feature from concept to release is a massive task and one that I relish in every part.  It’s the size of the project and all the work that goes into it that drives me more then anything.  But earning money is a very big part of staying alive and able to do the things that you really want to do.  To perform you need to stay alive.

Bigger & Better

Just a little bit scary

It’s been another interesting week on the “No Balls” project.  Remembering of course that it’s a little over a year since we started really working on it.  Much time was previously spent on “The Cowley Road Drinking Club”.  Which whilst not made because of first time writer problems and those of a commercial perspective, gave us a huge learning curve witch the current project is definitely befitting from. One day I’ll strip it down and make it do’able, more for love then money.  This one is a commercial film, that is aimed at the family audience and we are determined to make it a lot of fun.  The thing is it’s already getting a lot bigger then I had ever imagined, and that comes with a healthy fear.  I need that to make sure I give it my best, but some of the actors being brought to the fold are pretty bloody amazing actually.

And in a Year?

The film will be out there (one hopes still at the Cinema), it feels a little cereal at the moment, though we are working hard on it right now, the real realisation will start as it becomes a full time project for an entire team in January.  Exciting that’s for sure.  Huge, I think so.

Bin a Long Time

By Eck it’s all ‘appening

I’m not sure at what point your dream turns from fantasy into reality, but sometime over the last year it definitely happened.  The signs have been there for a long time, mixed with a little hard work and meeting some valuable industry people at the right time, it all seams to have “clicked” into place.  The majority of the team seam to have fitted into the right roles for the moment with Baz leading the line and taking a huge amount of responsibility off my shoulders.  Si seams to be really kicking into his role in a big way and doing all the things that we always new he was capable of.  Me?  well the pressure is huge, it’s one thing talking the talk but having to walk the walk on such a huge scale is almost enough to push oneself right over the edge.  I’ve huge negotiations and agreements to make, then there is all sorts of other pressures on top of that.  It’s nearly unreal as we talk major household names, discounting some, being surprised by others.  Of course with this comes the reality that this is a far bigger project then it was going to be.  This is of course a good thing; that our idea can creat the interest that it already has is massive.  One tries not to run before one can walk, but all the signs are scareingly good at this stage.

So You Can’t Talk About It?

Not in any detail,  just because it would not benefit the project.  As soon as I’m in a place where I know I can chat then I’ll be posting regular updates.  It’s all moving very quickly at the moment, I’m really pleased with the producers and the help from my mentors.  I also hope to be able to announce on the official ChalkStar site the names of the producers and the production company that we are partnering with.  This will happen in conjunction with a number of world-wide press releases.

Please, Please Bare With Us…

There are so many vital factors I have to concentrate on at the moment to make sure the project gets off its feet properly, that I cant keep everybody updated on an individual basis, I know that there are a lot of skills out there and where I can I’ll be introducing you, but that will not be for a while yet.  We have to make it fly on the bigger scale.  And as much of a cliche as it is, this is not the last film we will make, so think of the big picture.

It’s all Good

It is. It’s very exciting and it’s really happening.  Yes I do have to pinch myself, but then I remember that it’s taken four years to get here, five by the time we start shooting.  It’s been worked for and now it’s happening.
