Onother day another disturbed nights sleep

I would but it’s somebody else’s idea

So, I’ve a lodger hording dirty dishes in their room and taking my unwashed stuff out of the washing machine rather then setting it running.  That’s topped off by filling the room with a bad atmosphere and some of the very worst singing and humming that you may ever have the misfortune to hear.  Then we have a lodger who invites ladies over in the middle of the night, but does not think to answer the door to them, so instead they ring the doorbell and wake me up.  This puts me in a bad mood, I don’t get back to sleep and my fine plans of painting some of the walls in the house seam to fade into a distant nice thought.  I’ve made a lot of good friends from having lodgers and they have definitely helped me get through the worst of times recently, however you have to give up so much when you share your house. More recently it seams that those people dont think of it as my house, and because of that less respect all around.  Oh, it’s not the worst set I’ve had, well perhaps one of them is, I’ve had some funny ones though, and yes it would make a good book, but that is not my idea and not my story to tell.

 Filmy stuff

Feels a bit like kicking my heals at the moment.  Next year is going to be one hell of a ride, I just wish we were saddled up now. Its nice to know that we have so many people looking after us in the background.  Oxford seams to be very excited.  What about you?

Remembering

On the ChalkStar Films twitter we’ve been doing our top ten tear jerking films, one of which for me is “Stand by Me”.  It’s not often that a film will remind me of a part of my life, that is not forgotten, more suppressed. When I was 16 my friend Cooper drowned in 4 foot of water in a gravel pit, Coop was 6 foot 3 tall, and had been breathing butane with a friend.  It was and still is one of the saddest things that has happened in my life. It’s nice to remember him, it had been a long while since we hung out but he still protected my in the shit-whole of an estate that we lived on.  He was just 14 years old when he died. I will never forget him.

So the Freak.

It’s been bugging me for a couple of weeks now, actually that a lie for nearly a year.  but over the last couple of weeks I’ve been trying to work out what one of my lodgers awful singing reminds me of.  Si says its nervous singing, all I know is that is affects the usefulness of my nervous system.

it’s so true!

Proper Work

Advertising

I got a couple of days work on a TV add last week, typically in Norfolk.  For what you do the money is actually very, very good.  It was also the most professional gig I’ve ever been on.  The budget for 30 seconds of TV time I suspect will sit around the same as the budget for the last feature that I worked on.  The good thing is that I met new people, saw a different side to things and learned a little bit more about possible kit for the film.

Would I as a Director?

It’s something that I’ve put a lot of thought into over the last few days.  I think if it was the right product, yes I might.  If only to subsidize the rest of the work we do.  It is though a very different beast, getting perhaps 3 shots a day as apposed to the 3 pages I would expect to achieve on film.  I would also miss the other factors.  Making a feature from concept to release is a massive task and one that I relish in every part.  It’s the size of the project and all the work that goes into it that drives me more then anything.  But earning money is a very big part of staying alive and able to do the things that you really want to do.  To perform you need to stay alive.
